What merchant account should you use?

Time and time again I get customers that ‘jump the gun’ and go to the bank and get a merchant account before they have a website or shopping cart system. This is usually a bad idea for many reasons. For one you want to make sure you have selected a shopping cart that you will be happy with first. Could you image having a merchant account that is only supported by one shopping cart and that shopping cart sucks? Second how do you know that the merchant account you just got is the best deal?
