Magento Paypal shipping error fix

Are you getting a paypal shipping error when using paypal and magento? It can be a huge headache but you’ll be relieved to know its an easy fix!

Why does the error happen?
Magento sends additional shipping information that paypal does not understand so paypal produces an error.

Error produced on paypals end: (from paypal’s website)
Unable to process payment. Please contact the merchant as the shipping address provided by the merchant is invalid, and the merchant has requested that your order must be shipped to that address.

The Fix?
You need to locate the paypal standard module in your magento commerce files. Below is the path:
appcodecoreMagePaypalModelApiStandard.php

Once you find the file open it in a text editor and search for ‘address_override’. You will see it is currently set to ’1′. What you need to do is change it to 0.

Notes:

I have called paypal and this is a known error. They confirmed that making this change is not a problem with paypal.
